Sports and Wellbeing

At Swinford CE Primary we are using our PE & Sport Premium to part-fund a qualified sports coach.  Mr Jason Nicholson and his team of coaches, are already known to many pupils across the school. They provide high quality instruction during PE lessons and also runs sporting activities at lunchtimes; and promotes increased pupil participation in PE & Sport beyond the school day.

There are two key whole school events – cross country which happens in the Autumn term on our school site and the nearby cricket field. Followed by the school sports day in the summer term. This includes the traditional track races in the morning followed by field events in the afternoon. All our children compete, earning house points for their team.

Mr Nic supports our children  to prepare for at local sporting competitions through our membership of SLLSP. During the year, all year 6 pupils will participate in a local sporting competition. These range from cross country and table tennis to football and netball.

We aim for all our pupils to swim at least 25m by the time they leave Swinford. Year 5 and 6  children have a  half term at swimming locally.  For those that are non-swimmers additional support is given to them, so they can reach their potential.

Our sporting curriculum also extends to the annual house pancake races, Boreatton Park PGL residential for Year 5 and 6 and cycling proficiency training for Year 5 and 6.
